DeeTa Logo

DeeTa (Dental Equipment Engineers Trade Association) is a new initiative being developed ahead of a planned launch on 1 July 2026.

This is not being presented as a finished product or a big promise. It is a work in progress, built by engineers, for engineers, with the aim of creating something genuinely useful for the dental equipment engineering trade.

What DeeTa Is

At its core, DeeTa is about starting somewhere sensible.

We want to begin building a community for dental equipment engineers and start putting some basic standards, shared knowledge, and practical guidance in place. Nothing overcomplicated, and nothing dressed up as if all the answers already exist.

For a sector that plays such an important role in keeping practices running safely, there is still a real need for clearer support, better connection between engineers, and a more joined-up way of sharing experience.

Part of the reason for taking this forward is the amount of real-world bad practice that still exists across the trade. Too often, engineers are left working around poor standards, inconsistent processes, or advice that does not reflect the reality of the job. DeeTa is being developed as a practical response to that, with the aim of encouraging better habits, clearer guidance, and a more professional standard across the industry.

Built by Engineers, for Engineers

DeeTa is being shaped by people who understand the job properly.

That matters, because any standards or guidance need to reflect what actually happens in the field, not just what sounds good on paper. The plan is to keep things practical, honest, and useful from day one.

Part of the story behind DeeTa is personal. This is Paul Sutcliffe’s story and Paul Sutcliffe’s vision. Paul started dentalengineer.co.uk and the related Facebook group to help bring engineers together and create a better way to share experience across the trade.

Paul also brings extensive hands-on industry experience to this work. He has been a specialist in the dental engineering sector since at least 2003, building a reputation over more than 20 years for professional service and deep product knowledge through SSD Group and DentalEngineer.co.uk. That background adds real weight to the DeeTa mission and helps ground it in practical experience from the trade itself.

In February 2024, Paul’s journey took a serious turn with a major mental health struggle. Getting the right help made a real difference and led to a much stronger win-win attitude — one focused not just on getting through the work, but on building something healthier and more supportive for everyone involved.

During that period, Steven deserves real credit for holding the helm while Paul recovered. That support helped keep things moving and made it possible for Paul to come back with a clearer sense of purpose.

DeeTa is a result of that renewed focus. It is not just about standards and guidance, but about encouraging engineers to look after one another, share what they know, and help create a trade that works better for the people in it.

We Need Input to Make It Work

If this is going to be worthwhile, it cannot be built in isolation.

We need input from engineers, companies, and others across the industry to help shape what DeeTa becomes. That includes ideas, feedback, and a realistic view of what would actually help.

Members of dentalengineer.co.uk will be able to auto-enrol, and anyone else with an interest in DeeTa can register their interest via the contact form at www.deeta.co.uk.

If you would like to be part of the conversation, please provide the following details:

  • Name:
  • Company:
  • Role:
  • Area Covered:
  • Email Address:
  • Contact Number:
  • Brief Message: (Please include your thoughts and interest, and let us know how much time you could realistically give to helping with the development.)

You can register your interest and follow progress at https://deeta.co.uk.

We are at the start of this, not the finish. But with the right input, DeeTa could become a solid and practical step forward for dental equipment engineers in the UK.
